Discussion is an important component of learning and social interaction within the classroom. During the comprehension lesson, I saw learning "come alive" as students built upon each other's responses. Students at varying literacy levels were able to absorb and take away important concepts in comprehension and determining main idea within passages because of the context within the classroom.
Students should be exposed to learning using a variety of tasks. This keeps lessons fresh and inviting for students. Within the lessons I watched and instructed, students were involved in discussion, silent reading, working in groups, and individually. This variety worked very well within this classroom.
