This scene is about Jonas seeing colours for the first time and seeing red in the apple. Once this happens Jonas realises that he is different and unique compared to everyone else. This is the first step to him becoming the receiver. page.39. Jonas, "The apple changed, Just for an instant."
Being A Receiver
This scene is about the ceremony of twelve where everyone who is turning a twelve gets a job. When they are calling out the names and Jonas's name is missed it implies that it is going to be a very import job. Jonas ends up getting awarded as the new receiver. page.82. Elder, "Jonas has been selected to be our next receiver of memory."
This scene is were Jonas receives his first memory. This is a big step in Jonas's life and the start of his training to becoming the new receiver. This is a big change in his life and new experience he will have to face. page.105. Giver, "I am going to transmit the memory of snow," the old man said, ans placed his hands on Jonas's bare back.
The Final Breath
This is the scene where Jonas passes on his first memory to Gabriel in his cot. By doing this Jonas is breaking the rules, but it also makes him feel important and like he is the receiver. This scene is in colour because Jonas can now see colours. page.150. Jonas, "He wasn't aware of giving the memory; but suddenly he realized that it was becoming dimmer, that it was sliding through his hand into the being of the new child."
In this scene Jonas leaves the community on a bike to save Gabe and turn the community back to the way it should be. By doing this he is breaking more than three rules so if he was caught he would have been released, so that shows that he is very brave and determined. page.204. Jonas, "But that evening everything changes...all the thing they had thought through so meticulously-fell apart. That night, Jonas was forced to flee... leaving the community."
This scene can either be a memory or real life of Jonas and Gabe going down a snow hill and a sledge and it ends up being Christmas at the bottom of the hill. He's thinking of happy things and things he wanted to happen in his life. page. 224. Jonas, "Downward, downwards, faster and faster. Suddenly he was aware with certainty and joy that below, ahead, they were waiting for him.... he heard something he new to be music."
