Storyboard Text

  • President Andrew Jackson did not believe that Native Americans could assimilate into American culture, and should be moved west out of the way of the expanding United States. He ignored the Supreme Court ruling on Worcester v. Georgia that gave the Cherokee a right to their land.
  • John Marshall has made his decision, now let him enforce it!
  • As Many as 1/3 of the Native Americans Died on the Trail of Tears.
  • The Indian Removal Act authorized the United States to move Native Americans off of their lands...
  • The 5 civilized tribes, including the Cherokee and Creek, were forced off of their land in the east and sent westward to Oklahoma.   The ground was less fertile, less hospitable, and most importantly, not home.
