Two years after the death of Jay Gatsby, Nick is debriefing all of the events that occurred after Gatsby's death and he is describing the night of his murder. Nick also talks about Tom and Daisy left without any warning.

There were a bunch of journalist and news reporters at Gatsby's house the night he was murdered.
Nick desperately tried to have good funeral for Gatsby, but all of his "friends" suddenly disappeared and only Nick, Gatsby's father, Owl eyes, and a few servants showed up.
Nick came across Tom one day in the city and Nick confesses that he was the one that told Wilson who's car ran over his wife. Tom made is very clear that he believed that Gatsby deserved to die.
On the night before Nick is going to move back to the Midwest, he makes one last trip to Gatsby house. At his house he stands at the end of his dock and looks out into the green light.
While he's looking out into the green light, he thinks about's about how the wealthy will always be safe because of their wealth and that if you are born into a wealthy family then you are automatically given the chance of the American Dream.
