  • the most moving words Jefferson wrote in the declaration of independence condemned slavery.
  • slaves should be free too.
  • we dont want to free our slaves we paid for.We will free them at our death.
  • Jefferson went against King George saying he " waged cruel war against human nature" by "captivating and carrying" a "distant people who had never offended him" into "slavery in another hemisphere, or to incur miserable death in their transportation thither."
  • south Carolina and Georgia refused to sign anything that started slavery, they said it " violated the sacred rights of life and liberty."
  • people didn't want slaves to be free but Thomas Jefferson thought not only colonist but slaves should be free too.it was extreme difficult for a owner to release his slaves while he was alive.
  • Jefferson never freed his slaves but tried to outlaw the horrific practice again in 1784.then in 1789, as president he signed an ordinance prohibiting slavery in the Northwest territory's.
  • Thomas Jefferson went through a lot of struggles while writing the deceleration of independence because not very many people agreed with his great ideas, even though he was told to write it.
