  • Ernest my dear boy 
  • My name's Jack 
  • Will you marry me?
  • As long as your name is Ernest, yes!
  • Ernest Worthing has come to town to propose to his love Gwendolen, but Algernon does not think this to be the right idea. (Act 1, page 4)
  • You may not marry my daughter

  • After a brief disagreement over a cigarette case, it comes to light that Ernest Worthing's real name is Jack Worthing. Ernest in the city, Jack in the country (Act 1, page 7)
  • lost both your parents? that's careless 
  • Ernest proposes to Gwendolen, she accepts under to false pretenses that his real name is Ernest, because apparently that is important. (ACt 1 , page 16)
