  • Take it up with Colonel Sartoris then!
  • New town leaders take over, they make attempts to make emily begin to pay taxes. However her dad made an agreement with the mayor that she did not have to pay taxes so she refused
  • Ms. Grierson, I am here on behalf of the Board of Aldermen here to collect your taxes
  • The day after Mr. Grierson’s death, the women of the town call on Emily to offer their condolences. Meeting them at the door, Emily states that her father is not dead, a charade that she keeps up for three days
  • No, my father is still alive! He is not dead!
  • Emily, we know this loss must be hard for you and we are here for you if you need anything
  • Emily buys posion and people think that she plans on using it to kill herself, which makes them a bit worried.
  • Arsenic, what for?
  • I need poison, Arsenic to be exact
  • Don't worry about it.
  • Emily becomes very anti-social and refuses to pay tax bills. At this point she drops off from society and becomes very ostracized
  • After Emily's funeral, the townspeople break down a door that hasn't been opened in 40 years and inside the room is Homer Barron's dead body
