My name is Chris Limerick. I served in the U.S. Army for 9 years
When I was 24, I flew to Port au Prince, Haiti for 3 months
Our mission was to make a smooth transition between the Haitian dictator Jean-Claude Duvalier and the new Haitian president. The supporters of Duvalier were very cruel and were causing many problems in the economy.
When we came, we were in full combat gear. We had to quickly get to our tents because if some people found out we were there, they would shoot.
When we came, we were already in full combat gear. We had to get to our campground safely because if some people found out we were here, they might shoot.
When we were there Hurricane Gordon came as well. Our only shelter was tents.
Coming to Haiti and being prepared for worst was nerve racking. We were also very anxious because we didn't know what would happen with the hurricane.
