  • The Location and Geography of Rome
  • The Myth of Romulus and Remus
  • The Etruscan Influence of Engineering
  • Rome is located in Italy, it has a peninsula and islands. It is shaped like a boot, the toe of the boot is pointing to an island called Sicily. It reaches into the Mediterranean sea.
  • The Etruscan Influence of Sports
  • Long ago, a princess had two twin boys, Romulus and Remus. Their uncle was afraid they were going to take the throne from him, so he ordered his men to drown the boys. They put them in a river, but they float because they are in a basket, so the boys glide down the river and a wolf finds them. The wolf saves them, the boys are now in line for the throne but they have to fight to see who gets it. Romulus wins and kills his brother. Romulus becomes king and builds a town that he calls Rome.
  • The Greek Influence of Architecture
  • The Etruscan engineered arches and the cuniculus. Romans stole this idea and adapted these things into better builds. They used arches for bridges, stadiums, and aqueducts. The Romans soon became better engineers than the Etruscans.
  • The Greek Influence of Writing, Art, and Religion
  • One Etruscan influence on Roman sports was chariot racing, the people on the chariots were strapped to them. If a chariot fell over, the people on it could be dragged under the chariot's wheels or trampled by the horses. Another influence is slave fighting, two slaves with dead masters would fight to the death with swords and small shields. The winner would be killed so both slaves always died.
  • The Romans used Greek designs in their buildings. They eventually learned how to use concrete to build even bigger structures. They built huge stadiums like the Colosseum where gladiators fought. Or the Circus Maximus where they held chariot races.
  • The Romans did a lot of similar things that the Greeks did when it comes to writing, art, and religion. For writing, the Romans used all capital letters and they used a lot of the Greek alphabet, they also got the idea of carving writing into walls and columns from the Greeks. For art, they copied pottery, painting, and sculpture. In religion, they stole the idea of the Greeks gods, but instead of keeping the Greeks names, they changed them names to Roman names.
