For or Against Protagonist and Why: She is for the protagonist because she pities him and wants him to return home.
Traits: Helpful, authoritative Domain: God of Sky; Mt. Olympus Role in Epic: He gives into Athena's requests for his help in getting Odysseus home. He sends Hermes to order Calypso to set Odysseus free from her island. For or Against Protagonist and Why: He is for the protagonist because Athena persuades him to help Odysseus.
Traits: Stubborn, desperate Domain: Nymph; Ogygia Role in Epic: She holds Odysseus captive on her island for seven years. Later, she is ordered by Zeus to let him go and to help him build a raft. For or Against Protagonist and Why: She is both for and against because she attempts to persuade Odysseus to stay. After he declines, she reluctantly helps him build a raft to leave.
Traits: savage, appalling Domain: Cyclops; Land of Cyclopes Role in Epic: He traps Odysseus and his men in his cave and plans to eat them. For or Against Protagonist and Why: He is against the protagonist because he does not care for the gods and would rather eat the men as his meals.
Traits: deceitful, demanding Domain: Goddess of Magic (Witch); Aeaea Role in Epic: She turns Odysseus' men into pigs, forces him to stay on her island for one year, and demands that he hear a prophecy from the ghost of Tiresias. Later, she plays the role of a valuable ally as she tells him the dangers ahead in his journey. For or Against Protagonist and Why: She is both because she first tries to trap them on her island, but as Odysseus begs to leave after one year she decides to help them return home.

Traits: beautiful, bewitching, evil Domain: Female half-bird and half-human; Sirens' island Role in Epic: They sing to men sailing by them. Their voices attempt to make Odysseus's crew forget their homes and crash the ship to their deaths. For or Against Protagonist and Why: They are against Odysseus because they try to lure Odysseus to listen to their songs. If he did not have beeswax blocking the sound, he would of driven his crew to their deaths.
