The Pilgrims had been persecuted in England for their religious beliefs. They were a group of seperatists. After some exploring, the Pilgrims chose land around Plymouth Harbor for their settlement.
The First Winter ( 1620 - 1621 )
They sailed on the Mayflower to reach Plymouth Harbor. They faced many hardships including going completely off course. The Pilgrims were on board for two months.
Squanto Helps Out
The Mayflower Compact was a compact the Pilgrims signed aboard their ship. Each of the Pilgrims who signed the document promised to obey the laws passed "for the general good of the colony." The Mayflower Compact's key step in the development of representative, democratic government in America.
The First Thanksgiving
During the first winter everything went downhill. Half the pilgrims died from illness, hunger, and a really bad cold. The First Winter was hard but things brightened up !
Times were really rough, until they met Squanto, who taught them how to put a small fish as fertilizer in each little corn hill, ensuring a bountiful harvest
At the First Thanksgiving the Native Americans gave the Pilgrims an offering of five deer. They had a festival that lasted for 3 days. They did not have all the things we have today to eat, for example, they had sea food instead of turkey.
