  • Hey mom! How was your doctor's appointment?
  • Great! She just wants me to get a mammogram and bring it next week.
  • A mammogram, really? Is there something you are not teling me?
  • Everyhting is fine! It's just routine screening. I've been getting them for years now. When was the last time you got screened?
  • I've never had one. Never thought it was necessary. Breast cancer doesn't run in the family.
  • What? Sweetie it's very important to get checked. Everyone is at risk.
  • 1 in every 8 women will develop breast cancer.  Breast Cancer is the most common cancer in women and is the #1 cause of death in Hispanic Women.
  • I know how important it is to get checked.To be honest, it's something that has always scared me a little. 
  • Sure mom, set it up. I think it's time for me to get checked.
  • Don't be scared! I'm sure everything is fine. Want me to call my doctor and set up an appoinment for you? She's very nice!
  • Mammograms are the most important tool for early detection of breast cancer. For average risk women, screening mammograms should be performed annually beginning at age 40.
