Storyboard Text

  • The Normans travelled to England under the flag of William the conquerer.
  • Friday, October 1066
  • William's Norman army consisted of three lines; archers, infantry and mounted knights. King Harold's English army met them a few miles from the village of Hastings. His men were tired from the southward march.
  • Saturday, October 1066
  • Despite this, the Normans struggled to break the English shield wall. Rumours soon spread that William had been killed, and the Normans fled in disarray. The English pursued.
  • "King William has been killed!"
  • "King William has been killed!"
  • "King William has been killed!"
  • But the rumours were false. William was indeed alive and this confusion had caused the English to break formation.
  • I'm alive!
  • With King Harold's men out of line, they were slaughtered. It was a fateful shot from an Norman Archer that ended the battle, striking King Harold in the eye.
  • King William would be named 'William the Conqueror', and would be crowned as the next King of England.
  • I am now William the Conqueror! I shall build an altar where Harold fell,  in memory of our victory!
