Horace Mann attended school only ten weeks a year. Mann was lucky because not many people got an education before the education reform.

For many years people struggled to get an education. Many people in the city stole , destroy property and set fire. Reformers believed that an education would help these childeren.

African Americans had few options. Crandall opened an African american girls school after whites were taken out of the school because a black girl was admitted. The school was later forced to close down.
In 1853 Horace Mann was the first president of a new college men and women. This school was called Antioch College. The students were urged to improve society .
Horace Mann's idea brought education to many people that couldn't get one before. He also realized that blacks needed education as well. He with the help of others helped build the education we have in america today.
