Orpheus was happy in Parnassus, singing and playing. He met his wife Eurydice and they lived peacefully together.
One day Eurydice left their little house and was attacked by a young king named Aristeus. As she ran to try to escape, she accidentally stepped on a nest of sleeping snakes. She was bit by so many snakes she died.
Orpheus found his wife dead in the forest and ventured out to get her back down in the underworld.
After making it down to the underworld he had to get past obstacles such as the ferryman and Cerberus. He was able to sway them with his music.
Orpheus goes and sings a song to the angry Hades and his wife Persephone. The song moves Persephone to tears and that is enough for Hades to release his wife.
There is one downfall to Hades deal, Orpheus must never look back to see his wife or else she is gone forever.
