Dred Scott was a slave who was owned by his master Dr.John Emerson.
Dr.John Emerson was an army surgeoun who took Dred in as a slave in 1830.
In 1836 Dred got transferred to Louisiana, where he met and married Eliza Irene Sanford as a slave
After, the doctor died in 1843 and he was hired out to another Army captain did he try to arrange freedom for he and his wife.
After, they offered Mrs.Emerson 300 dollars for manumission and she refused. They went to court and ended up living in free territory for extended periods.
In 1850 the couple retrialed but after 2 years their granted freedom was tooken away from them by the Missouri Supreme Court .
Scott still didn't stop fighting for his freedom and appealed the US Circuit Court in Missouri. Even though the odds were not in his favor. He set the tone for African Americans to fight for equality.
