I was born a slave and ever since I can remember I've been beat and yelled at by my white master.
My master Dr.John Emerson kept me in dirty small houses that had dirt floors.
My master took me to Wisconsin Territory where I met and married a beautiful girl named Harriet Robinson. But ,my master broke me and her apart and took me to Louisiana. Which angered me.
In Louisiana I met and married again. Soon, after we got married we both thought we should arrange freedom for ourselves. We offered the white master 300 dollars for our manumission but she rudely refused. So, we went to court.
There we filed separately and ended up getting free territory for a extended period of time. But, our case was tossed out on a technicality.
After, that I fought for my freedom in the Supreme Court for years. But, the odds were not in my favor and I remained a slave. I became known as a very determined individual in my town.
