With this first cigarette I kissed childhood goodbye.
You just look like you're wearing shoulder pads.
You sure I look normal?
I became a sophisticated woman.
This scene is significant because Marji is becoming defiant. She's disrespecting her parents and rebelling. She wants to grow up and feel freedom. If this weren't to have occurred and she would have just obeyed her parents she probably would smoke cigarettes or become as stubborn or defiant as she had been becoming.
Don't you have to be home at 11?
Now I was a grown-up.
This scene is significant because the parents are god at sneaking. they're intelligent enough with getting past security. they're good with working together. This impacts life because in the era that they were in with the different social classes and wars, sneaking things in like posters for their daughter is what gave their daughter and the parents happiness. If this wouldnt have happened then Marji probably wouldnt have gotten any memory or happiness from her parents trip to Turkey even though she wasnt there.
Hurry hide it in your jacket so mom cant see!
This scene is significant because Marji has decided to put herself first and put all her distractions aside. She has gained confidence and self esteem to push herself into becoming a better and improved person. If this had not occurred Marji probably wouldn't have had the confidence in her to make a change in herself and in her life.
This is significant because when I was younger I had a curfew and I would never come in at the right time because I would be out with my friends disobeying rules. I was a teen and my parents would never let me do what I wanted. They were very strict. Comparing to Marji her parents were the exact same, they were overprotective and strict. Marji and I both were being defiant and disobeyed our parents rules.
My Mother wont care.
She's lying , she does have to be home at 11, she's just mad a her parents.
This is significant because I used to sneak snacks upstairs with my sister at night because our mother wouldn't allow us to eat at night because it would keep us up. We were very young but we were intelligent enough to hide the snacks in our jackets or our pants. Comparing to Marji's parents, my sister and I both snuck snacks upstairs just like Marjis parents snuck the posters through security. We both made smart moves just to make ourselves or someone happy. We moved smoothly to avoid trouble.
I got you!
This is signifiant because when I was down and in the dips about life and who I was as a person, I decided to pick myself up and give myself a glo-up to boost my confidence and self esteem. I would not be as confident in myself as I am now if I didn't decide to pick myself up. Comparing to Marji we both were going through a rough time and we both decided the only way to get out of it was to pick ourselves up and make a change for ourselves to make us happier.
