  • I come to collect the taxes.
  • NO!
  • In the meeting they  discussed the matter of taxes. The king hoped they would solve the problems of the debts. But the people wanted to use the meeting to take power from the king.
  • The 3rd group of people representatives were more in number and in a vote they would have won. Because of this the king locked the representatives out of the meeting.
  • This caused the  representatives of the third group of people to gathered in an indoor tennis court and formed a group to define laws. In there they agreed not to give up until a French constitution was established.
  • The next day King Louis XVI send troops to Paris. The peasants, that were in favor of the new group fought against his troops. This started a revolution.
  • The 4th of July of 1789 the group that defined the laws created the declaration of rights. This declaration included freedom of speech, of the press and of the religion. It also protects people from being falsely arrested.
