A peaceful breeze was broken by the British cannons in Havre de grace MD, May 3, 1813. One man was brave enough to fight them off.
It was a clear day then all there was to see were British ships coming across the horizon, smoke filled the sky. The war of 1812 was brought to Havre de Grace.
The ships were coming in fast and John O'Neil was the only one there so he had to prepare for the fight. He got his weapon and loaded the cannons!
John O'Neil started to fight off the British taking shots from all angles. John O'Neil took out ships one by one, and now the British stared to board land. They started to over run his position.
The British had finally caught up to O'Neil and he was out numbered but kept fighting for Havre de Grace. Then the admiral by the name of George Cockburn, caught up to him and captured him and took him back to the remaining British ships.
John O'neil was took back to the British to get interrogated while the remaining British tore down Havre de Grace to shreds and demolished buildings as they went.
