Mitosis is a little difficult to explain because there's 4 stages but I will try to explain.
The first phase of mitosis is prophase, during prophase the nuclear membrane disintegrates and the centriols move to opposite ends of the cell.
OK, you weren't kidding, that's a lot of information.
The second stage of mitosis is metaphase, in this phase the chromotids line up in the middle of the cell.
The third phase of mitosis is anaphase, during anaphase the chromotids separate & move away from each other.
OK, so we're almost on the 4th phase.
The fourth phase of mitosis is telophase, during this phase a new nucleus forms around each set of chromosomes and mitosis is over.
