On March 25, 1347 Saint Catherine was born in Siena, Italy
Saint Catherine of Siena
Her family consisted of many brothers and sisters. She was the 25th child born to her mother at age 40!
Saint Catherine teaching her family about God
At age 18, Saint Catherine of Siena became a nun. Even though her parents didn't want her to. It took a lot of convincing, but eventually her parents gave in. Then one night, she had a vision of Christ in glory and surrounded by his saints. Then, she spent her time mostly in prayer and meditation.
Once upon a time, a young preacher lived. She preached to many different people including her 23 family members. Many people also sought her wise spiritual advice, in person and also by letter. She loved helping people and she loved teaching them about God and Jesus and all of the saints.
She enjoyed helping people and teaching them about God so much, she established a monastery in 1337.
Saint Catherine of Siena, died April 29, 1380, Rome. She was canonized in 1461. Her feast day is April 29. Dominican tertiary, mystic, and patron saint of Italy, she was declared a doctor of the church in 1970 and a patron saint of Europe in 1999.
