  • Thomas Jefferson believed that the Federal Government had to much power. He believed more power should be given to the states. Thomas Jefferson believed that state rights had all powers  not directly allotted to the Federal Government in the constitution. 
  • Naturalization Laws Repealed
  • Thomas Jefferson believed that the constitution only gave the Federal Government the powers directly stated in the constitution. Jefferson believed this would help limit the Federal Governments abuse of power. He is believed that more (white males)people should be given the power to vote.
  • Twelfth Ammendment
  • Twelfth Amendment
  • Napolean claimed the position of monarch in 1804. After this Napolean waged wars across Europe. These wars were very expensive, so he agreed to give Louisana Purchase over to the United States for 15 million dollars. Thomas Jefferson was quick to make this trade because he knew the high value of land.
  • Importations of Slaves Prohibited
  • No slave importation
  • Thomas Jefferson helped to have the naturalization laws of 1798 repealed. This lead to the required length of residency to revert back to 5 years instead of 14.
  • Naturalization Laws Repealed
  • Motivated by Thomas Jefferson and his election, Congress passed the twelfth amendment which required for the vice president and president to be voted for separately. This prevented chances for a presidential election ending in a deadlock tie.
  • During Jefferson's presidency the importation of slaves was prohibited(1808). This prevented more people from unwrongly being taken away from their land.
