  • Growing Tensions Between the Colonies and Britian
  • BY: Ava Lanzetta!
  • The Quartering Act
  • The Stamp Act
  • EVERY PIECE OF PAPER MUST HAVE A BLUE STAMP!!!
  • After the French and Indian War Britain had come up with a lot of debts, so they raised taxes (on the Colonists). Britain wanted to have the Colonists pay for their debts, but didn't ask them and that is called taxation without representation. Britain was acting like a parent to the (child) Colonies.
  • The Boston Massacre
  • Britain sent soldiers to "protect" the colonists from the Native Americans. During the protection process the Colonists ended up (sharing) food, sleep, transportation, and work with the British. When Britain thought they were helping they were really making things  a lot harder, and it was adding up (growing tensions).
  • The Boston Tea Party
  • Since Britain was in debt from the French and Indian War and they were "protecting" them they decided they would have the Colonists pay for them!! Britain also wanted to put up a law, the law was that every piece of paper had to have a blue stamp on it saying that you payed the extra tax, this was called the Stamp Act. In March 1766 Britain took away the Stamp Act.
  • The Intolerable Acts
  • Colonists were very tired of the soldiers, so one night they threw snowballs, rocks, and ice balls at the soldiers. One soldier thought he heard his boss say "FIRE!" but none really said anything. Some people say the Colonists were very peaceful, but that is not the case. The soldiers weren't either because they killed and wounded 11 people!
  • Britain passed a law that forced the Colonists to buy tea from only one company, The British India Company. This law, was called The British Tea Act. In this law, Britain took all the other taxes off except for tea, of course. To show their anger the Colonists dumped 90,000 pounds of tea in the Harbor, it was to prove a point, also.
  • The British passed many laws against the Colonists , one being the harbor was closed until the Colonists payed for all the lost tea. Many workers lost their jobs because of that law. The Colonists were very aggravated and so they decided to meet in "secret" to talk about how unfair all of this was!
  • We must be sure to not let anyone else know that we are here talking about how unfair this is!
