we are the Romans and we are going to be starting a war with your city Carthage.
Your military just wants to test out there strength on us.
The First Punic War
You will have to surrender soon, and we will own Sicily. HAHA
We control Sicily, and your troops can't just come over here just like that.
The second Punic War (part 1)
Sounds cool, I will definitely come!
Hey, do you like the Rome ruling, well if not then come with me and we can take down Rome together with the rest of my army?
The Punic Wars were a series of 3 wars that occurred between 264 b.c and 146 b.c. The war was fought by Rome and another city called Carthage. ( the term "Punic" comes from poeni, the Latin word for Phoenician)
The second Punic War (part 2)
Peace is all we want, we surrender.
The first Punic War began in 264 b.c. It all began when Rome sent troops to an island called Sicily, which was claimed by Carthage. Sicily is at the tip of Italy. The war ended 20 years later when Carthage surrendered and handed over Sicily to Rome.
The third punic War
go on you slave!
A great General from Carthage named Hannibal launched the second Punic war. In 218 b.c Hannibal and his army left to Spain in Spring, to invade northern Italy. He prayed he would find some allies in Spain to help him conquer Rome. BY fall they have reached the alps that separate Italy from the rest of Europe. BY the time they got to northern Italy, he had about half of his army remaining but had some people that joined him along the way that hated the Roman rule.
The Growth of Rome
Why do our crops need to be so cheap? Now I can't pay for my small farm
Hannibal's army marched through southern Italy winning battle after battle. During Hannibal worst defeat he killed almost 45,000 men. Around this time the Romans were building a navy. In 204 b.c a Roman general named Scipio sailed to Carthage with a large army. At this time Hannibal left Italy and returned home to Carthage. When he left his army suffered a disastrous defeat against a town south of Carthage. A year later Carthage asked for peace and the Romans agreed, and that was the end of the second Punic War.
The third Punic war started in 149 b.c At this time the Romans wanted Carthage to lose power forever. the Romans burned Carthage to the ground, and even put salt on their land so that they could never grow crops there again. They also sold the people from Carthage into slavery. The destruction caused the Romans to have control of the western Mediterranian Sea. Next Romans sent troops to western Greece and southwest China. By around 133 b.c the Romans ruled most of the Mediterranean region.
After the Punic wars Rome grew into a Big empire and had great power and wealth. Not all Romans benefited from this wealth and success. Some people became rich and wealthy, while others sank into slavery and poverty. The gap between the two groups created disastrous problems. For example since the food supply was surplus that means the prices were cheaper and that left farmers not able to pay for there small plots of land. The Growth of Rome affected lives of many Romans, in good and bad ways.
