In the spring, before the election year, candidates announcetheir intentions to run. After, in the primary and caucus debates take place.
There is a long process towards becoming President of the United States.
In January to June of the election year, states hold primary and caucuses. After, in early June to September, the parties hold nominating conventions to choose their candidates.
In September through October, Candidates participate in Presidential debates, as we saw between Trump and Hilary in the 2016 Election. After, In early November, Election Day is here.
The people vote for their Electors and those Electors cast their vote in for the state into the Electoral College
Then, in early January of next year calendar, the Congress counts the Electoral votes to see who has won.
After, the Congress figures out who won Inauguration Day for the new President is held in January! That is the path to Presidency.
