The Battle of Trenton was a very important victory to the Patriots because they took over 900 prisoners. In the spring of 1777 the British wanted a victory. A british general planned to separate new England from the other colonies. They knew they had to have perfect timing. His army ended up being bogged down in thick forest and was filled with obstacles like cut down trees the Patriots had put there. His army was forced to surrender as they found themselves surrounded by the militia. This battle was the turning point of the war.
The winter of Valley Forge was filled with suffering, even though no battles took place here. Washington had settled his 12,000 men here and were running dangerously low on food, and clothing. They lacked the most basic protection and over 2,000 soldiers died of malnutrition and disease.
