Hale comes in the the town thinking that this would be a beloved errand him because he enjoyed being called to investigate witchcraft. He is sure of himself, believing in his fate, and positive he will find the "Witch."
"I denounce these proceedings, I quit this Court!"-act 3 p.111
Hale says that he works for the lord and wont kill anyone without solid proof or any doubt that their life should in fact be taken. He is still sure of himself.
Reverend hale enters. They look at him for an instance in silence. He is steeped in sorrow, exhausted, and more direct than he ever was.-act 4 pg 119
"There is blood on my head! Can you not see it the blood on my head!!"-act 4 pg 121
Hale is now acting different. He is starting to worry and think that the court is being unfair. He doesn't believe proctor is a witch and thinks that Elizabeth was just trying to protect Proctors name.
Hale stepped out of his faith and looked at what thew court was doing and thought it was wrong. He didn't believe Proctor should die.
Hale is stressed about everything that was going on and feels guilt for killing so many people. The town is now run down with cows wondering around and overgrown farms because there is barley anyone left after the trials. There is also a rumor of a riot which hale feels responsible for.
Hale is feeling the regret and guilt for all the people he has killed that could have been innocent. He doesn't want proctors blood on his head also.
