Bobby is an average boy. But one day he wakes up invisible! He has no idea why and there seems to be no explanation.
A child-service worker comes to their house. Bobby has been "sick" and missed a lot of school. She is wondering where he is, but Bobby's mother wants to keep his condition a secret and refuses to tell her, so the worker threatens to involve the government.
Bobby sneaks out of his house to go to the library. When he leaves the library to go home, he accidentally bumps into Alicia. She is a girl his age who happens to be blind. He walks her home, and confesses to her that he is invisible.
Alicia helps him investigate his invisibility, and they narrow the cause down to one item - his electric blanket. They find out that the company who made the blankets recalled some blankets for a malfunction. When a Sears representative won't give him the names of the people they recalled the blankets from, Bobby sneaks into Sears to get the names.
Bobby calls the names on the list. The 59th call is to the father of someone who became invisible too. Bobby and Alicia call the daughter, Shelia, and find a connection between both disappearances.
Bobby and Alicia figure out that high-energy particles from space interfered with his electric blanket and turned him invisible. Bobby goes to sleep under his electric blanket overnight. When he wakes up, he is visible again!
