I'm poor, because I invested in the stock market on margin, and I can't pay back what I owe. I've been rich and happy since forever because of what the stock market has given me, and now it's collapsed, and I lost all this money!

The stock market crashed in 1929, since then a few laws were passed, and a good amount was done to prevent a depression like that from ever happening again. Things like Welfare and The New Deal were products from the great depression
