The Cold War lasted 45 years.. A "war" between the Soviet Union and the United States.

The fight to the top
They were on opposite sides on the political spectrum. They both wanted to be the best country.
The Cold War grew due to the Cuban Missile Crisis.
The Soviets had been secretly supplying Cuba with nuclear missiles.
One of the first conflicts between the two was the Berlin Airlift in 1948. The Soviets blockaded the western part of Berlin in Germany to try to force the Americans and the British to hand over their territory to Soviet control.
It didn't work either. The USA airlifted supplies to Berlin, so the Soviets removed the blockade with embarrassment.
Fearing Soviet expansion, the U.S instituted a policy of containment. Helping Western Europe rebuild economically on democratic, capitalistic lines through the Marshall Plane
In conclusion, the Cold War was cased by mistrust, differing politcal systems, disagreeing over Berlin & Europe, Nuclear weapons, and space.
