Rabbi: "The Nazis have a list of your names and are planning to relocate you and your family."
"This is not good."
"Ellen will be staying with us for a little while."

They were scared and Kirsti, Annemarie's little sister, was furious. the girls saw these same soldiers every day on the way home from school but, they were no longer innocent by passers anymore, the Nazis would recognize who they were from now on.
"Who is the dark haired one?"
"She is my daughter, Lise."
The rabbi called an unusual gathering of the Jews in the synagogue. The Rosens were worried about what they were going to do, They would turn to their friends the Johansens.
"We are headed to visit my brother for a few days"
"Where are you ladies going today?"

"This is Uncle Henrik's house."
"It is so beautiful here, I've never seen the ocean."
Two soldiers came to the Johansens apartment looking for the Rosens. When they entered Annemarie's bedroom they wanted to know who Ellen was. Papa showed the Nazis baby pictures of all his daughters and told them Ellen was Lise, who had passed away. The soldiers left without suspicion.
"I'm going to visit my uncle Henrik, and I'm wearing my brand new shiny black shoes!"
Mrs. Johansen and the girls were on their way to uncle Henrik's house when one of the soldiers on the train asked where they were headed. Mama told him that they were taking a vacation to visit her brother. When he asked if it was for the new year. Mama told him it was not. The soldier left and inspected the train.
