  • Japan Colonization/Imperialism 
  • We will extend our power throughout the pacific, that means the Pacific Fleet of Hawaii... 
  • U.S. oil/steel embargo on Japan
  • I feel as though Japan has become a threat. We have an embargo with them. Would they stop if we froze it?
  • Pearl Harbor, Hawaii and the surprise attack. 
  • Imperialism means to extend the power of a country. This is exactly what Japan was doing. They planned to extend their power throughout the pacific which meant they were headed for Hawaii, which they saw as a threat. 
  • FDR/Date that will live in infamy 
  • The United States had a steel and oil embargo with Japan. Japan had recently given into imperialism and was beginning to attack different countries. In efforts to stop this, the US froze their supply of oil and steel.  
  • Pearl Harbor was a surprise attack on the U.S. Pacific Fleet by Japan. There goal was weaken them and cause such devastation that the United States would just give up. 
  • When Franklin D. Roosevelt said "yesterday was a day that will live in infamy," he was referring to the attacking of Pearl Harbor in an important speech. Only an hour later, the United States declared war on Japan.
