  • The United States declares war on Japan.
  • After the Japanses attack on Pearl Harbor on December 7, 1941 ( "A day that will live in infamy."), President Franklin D. Roosevelt requests and receives a declaration of war against Japan. 
  • Mass mobilization efforts go into effect; The US mobilization effort focused on industry producing massive amounts of war goods including arms, ammunition, ships, tanks, jeeps and airplanes. 
  • Mass mobilization helped to employ as many people as possible, including women, to work in factories.
