Storyboard Text

  • "Merry Christmas! What right have you to be merry? What reason you have to be merry? You're poor enough."
  • "I am the Ghost of Christmas Past."
  • "Who and what are you?"
  • "Have I ever sough release?"
  • "In what, then?"
  • "In a changed nature, in an altered spirit, in another atmosphere of life..."
  • "In words. No. Never."
  • INDIRECT CHARACTERIZATION- Scrooge thinks that people can only be happy if they have money. He tells his nephew that he has no reason to be happy around Christmas time because he does not have a lot of money, which shows Scrooge is a money-oriented bitter old man.
  • "no. I should like to be able to say a word or two to my clerk just now. That's all."
  • SYMBOLISM- The ghost of Christmas Past visits Scrooge on the first night. The ghost symbolizes light because Scrooge needs to see the mistakes he made in his past.
  • "I wear the chain I forged in life. I made it link by link, and yard by yard..."
  • THEME- Belle is breaking up with Scrooge because he has changed into a greedy and selfish old man, which affects the rest of Scrooge's life. This is one of the main reasons of Scrooges personality and his hatred for Christmas.
  • INTERNAL CONFLICT- The Ghost of Christmas Past takes Scrooge to Mr. Fezziwigs Christmas party and Scrooge regrets the way that he has treated his clerk after seeing how Mr. Fezziwig treated him.
  • SYMBOLISM- Marley visits Scrooge to warn him to change. The chain Marley wears represents how he acted in his life which was greedy and selfish just like Scrooge.
  • INTERNAL CONFLICT- When the Ghost of Christmas Future shows Scrooge how people react to Scrooge's death, Scrooge realizes that he needs to change who he is to change what will happen in the future.
  • "...Assure me that I yet may change these shadows you have shown me by an altered life?"
