Piggy is a very fat, self concious, spectacle wearing, very afriad, but very wise kid on the island.
Ralph is one of the older boys who is voted chief by majority vote. Ralphs main goal is rescue.
“I was chief, and you were going to do what i said. You talk. Nut you cant even build huts-then you go off hunting and let out the fire-(pg 71)"
This from Piggy, and the wails of agreement from some of the hunters, drove Jack to violence. The bolting look came into his blue eyes. He took a step, and able at last to hit someone, stuck his fist into Piggy's stomach (pg 71)."
Jack is an older boy who is very obessed with hunting. He wants the power that Ralph has and it's being frist to turn savage.
"-They came for something else. Ralph-what am I going to do?" He was a chief now in truth, and he made stabbing motions with his spear. From his left hand dangled Piggy's broken glasses .(pg 168)
This is one of the main conflicts in the novel. This conflict also starts many conflicts after the fact. Man vs Man

Goulding's theme was savagery. This is when Ralph realizes how uncontrollable these savages are.
