The Europeans arrived in Newfoundland and wanted to trade with the Beothuk people. The Beothuk people did not agree.
We have dead people in the hut beside you i´d run. We do not want to trade, now leave.
Since the Beothuk people didn't want to compromise with the Europeans, the Europeans decided to capture Shawnadidiht, her mother and sister

Shawnadithits father attempted to save her mother, her sister, and herself. This ended horribly when the father drowned.

A British man named William Cormack realized that Shawnadithit was the last of her people and tried to record her culture and traditions, but it was all too late due ti she was already dying of Tuberculosis . She died in 1829.
