  • The Continental Army needed motivation to keep fighting in the war. The colonists had very strong patriotism. They gave up a lot to defend their families, friends, and their liberty.

  • The men in the Continental Army were mainly ordinary colonists, such as farmers. They did not know how to use muskets correctly. They were also not trained to fight like British soldiers.
