Storyboard Text

  • Mexicans Welcome Americans!
  • Once we cross this border, we'll be in Mexico!
  • Welcome to Mexico!
  • The Texans are becoming a threat, disarm them!
  • New Mexican Dictator
  • Yes sir!
  • The Battle of Gonzales
  • RETREAT!!!
  • Oh my, this is going to be harder than I thought.
  • Mexico welcomed so many Americans because they wanted to increase settlement, so the offered land to anyone who would bring their families and settle there as Mexican citizens. The Americans did not adjust very well as Mexican citizens, for example they refused to learn Spanish and become Catholic.
  • Battle of the Alamo
  • Antonio  Lopez de Santa Anna made himself dictator of Mexico by overthrowing the constitution, in 1835. Once he became dictator he recognized that the "American" Texans could rise to power, he ordered the Mexican Military to disarm the them.
  • Battle of San Jacinto
  • Well that was easy.
  • 20 minutes later
  • When the Mexican Military was disarming the Texans, they faced resistance from the Texan Matilda. The causing a short fight that the Mexicans retreated from. This battle was significant because it was the first battle for Texan Independence.
  • Texas Statehood
  • On February 23, 1836, the dictator and his army began to seize the Alamo Fort. The Mexicans greatly out numbered the Texans who had only 200 men. The battle lasted 13 days before the Mexicans won. This is significant because it was a symbol of their heroic resistance for their independence.
  • The Battle of San Jacinto only lasted 20 minutes and as a result 630 Mexicans were killed and only 9 Texans were killed. This battle was significant because it was the last battle of the Texan Revolution and on May 14, 1836 the Mexicans retreated and declared the end of war.
  • Texas became at U.S state on December 29, 1845, as a slave state. A problem that Texas had was that they had to wait a while for Florida to join the union as a free state before the United State was ready for them to join. This is because they need an even amount of free and slave states.
