rosa parks project

Storyboard Text

  • Hi! I am Rosa Parks. I was born in Pine Level, Alabama in 1913. My grandparents were slaves, but I was born free after slavery ended. Even though I am free, I do not have the same rights as white people.
  • I work at a department store sewing shirts. There are probably a few rules you should know about the way America was back then. You see, because I am black, I cannot go to school with whites, eat with whites, drink from the same fountain, or have many of the same privileges. These rules are known as the Jim Crow Laws.
  • No. I am tired of giving in. Call the police if you wish.
  • The bus is full and a white man is standing. Give up your seat and move further back or I will have you arrested.
  • You are under arrest for breaking the law.
  • Why do you treat us so badly? I am not tired from a long day. I am not an old woman. I am 42 and tired of giving in. It is not right.
  • Why do you refuse to move seats?
  • My refusal inspired other African Americans to stand up for what is right and refuse to give in. They stood behind me and boycotted the bus system. Then there was a Million Man March that gained us equal rights. I can now sit where I choose and be free. It is illegal to force me out of my seat or make me give in ever again for the color of my skin.

  • Rosa Parks is an inspiration to me and others because she is fearless and determined. She stood up for herself and what she believed was right and made a difference. I learned that anyone can make a difference. You do not have to be famous. You could simply work at a sewing shop and change America.
