  • Bull Run 
  • That is how general Jackson gets his nickname "STONEWALL"
  • "There is Jackson standing like a stone wall"
  • Wilmer McLean 
  • "OH MY GOD" 
  • New Home
  • The family moves into their new home in the spring of 1863"
  • "This is our new home"
  • The first battle of bull run was fought in Virginia on July,21,1861 and had approximately 4750 casualties the union was led by general  Irvin McDowell and the confederates were led by general Joseph E Johnston it was the first major battle of the civil war.
  • The surrender
  • "This is the biggest house lets tell Lee to meet us here" 
  • Wilmer was terrified to see a bomb in his kitchen during the battle of bull run. He was very close to the site were the battle of bull run was being fought 
  • Terms of the surrender
  • Those are the terms now we have to sign them .
  • He decided to move his family to a new place to protect them,he settled them in the biggest house in the Appomattox courthouse 200 miles away from his old home.
  • Aftermath 
  • Wilmer said "the war started in my front yard and ended in my front parlor" 
  • General Grant and General Lee both agreed to meet in the Appomattox courthouse area because they were both near it,so when they agreed to meet at a parlor.They found the place by Wilmer McLean who the war has revisited from his kitchen to his parlor. 
  • "we shall meet in the Appomattox courthouse at a parlor"
  • The terms were that "The officers to give their individual paroles not to take up arms against the government of the United States until properly exchanged, and each company or regimental commander to sign a like parole for the men of their commands, neither side arms of the officers nor their private horses or baggage  to be surrendered"
  • After the surrender the troops started taking souvenirs form Wilmer's Home and Wilmer boasted  "The war began in my front yard and ended in my front parlor"
