Derrick's job search was initially going badly, until he found Parlorly Ice Cream ice cream parlor, which hired him to a job behind the counter.
Parlorly Ice Cream
Derrick's boss was a middle-aged man named Mr. Parlorly (I know, right?). Mr. Parlorly would become a mentor to Derrick, showing him how to count the money and scoop the ice cream.
Mr. Parlorly ->
Customers were Derrick's main issues. Most were fine, but about one in every ten had some sort of problem or issue with him or the parlor, and as a result Derrick learned quickly to expect bad things every time someone walked through the front door. So when he heard a very important ice cream taster for a TV sow was coming, he thought the worst.
At first, Derrick was very nervous, because no customer had ever been this high-profile. But the taster loved the ice cream he made, and gave him a huge amount of prize money, $100,000 for his winning dessert treat!
When Derrick brought the money to his family, they were ecstatic. They used it to start renting a small, inner city townhouse, and his mom used the remainder to tide them over until she found a job as a secretary at a local office. Derrick was able to go back to school, as were his sisters. Life was all back to normal... except better.
