It was the day of Thanksgiving and Little Billy was getting prepared to perform his yearly show. Every year Little Billy saves up his mightiest burp in the middle of Thanksgiving dinner and every year a roar of laughter emits from the table filled with the cousins, aunts, uncles, parents, and granparents. However, one person showed no such response, not even a chuckle, and that was Grandma.
"When I was younger, we used to respect our elders Billy," Grandma yelled . "There was no burping at the dinner table. Especially Thanksgiving!" Grandma was infuriated and decided that this year was going to be different. There would be no burping at the dinner table, and she was the one who was going to make sure of it.
Suddenly, Grandma had the best idea. "I'll bribe him!," she exclaimed with a cheerful attitude. She thought that if she told Little Billy she would give him $20 (primary reinforcer) to not burp at the dinner table during meal it would encourage him to not burp. A positive reinforcement! She then called Little Billy over and told him her offer. "If you do not burp during our meal I will give you $20 right now (immediate) (fixed-interval)." He accepted, because who wouldn't accept $20 and that year Little Billy did not burp at the dinner table during the Thanksgiving meal.
