The chapter 22
In this chapter Junior seems to be struggling with how people in Reardan deal with things vs. how the people on the Rez deals with things.
Theme: Not everyone is open to accepting things they don't understand
By using the technique of characterization you can see that Junior's grandmother is very tolerant of people in general. Meaning not only people who like the same gender or people who are homeless just anyone for who and what they are.
"Jeez," she said. "Who cares if a man wants to marry another man? All I want to know is who's gonna to pick up all the dirty socks?"
Junior compares the people at Reardon with the people on the Rez. HIs grandma was very tolerant of different types of people.
