when they say something negative at first to each other, Winston doesn't hold anything back and says "I hated the sight of you" without skipping a beat. Julia just simply says she thought he worked for big brother. (120)
Winston tells the truth and tries to rebel against the social norms even though it may hurt someone or end badly. Winston is an anti hero.
