Three old women, the witches appear out of the snow. In eerie, chanting tones, they make plans to meet again upon the heath, after the battle, to confront a man called Macbeth.
King Duncan's generals, Macbeth and Banquo are walking through foul weather. They meet the three qitches, who greet Macbeth by his title 'Thane of the Glamis' and tell him that he will be soon ve 'Thane of Cawdor' and eventually become the king of Scotland. The witches tell Banquo that his sons will become kings.
King Duncan is told by his soldier that Macbeth and Banquo fought with great courage and violence. He decided to thank Macbeth for his service by giving him the title 'Thanw of Cawdor as the current Thane of Cawdor is about to be executed for teason. He also names his son, Malcolm, as the heir to his throne. Macbeth dclares his joy but notes to himself that the king's sons now stand between him and the crown.
