The Great Depression hit many civilians very hard making it had for people to purchase the commodities they could once afford. Jobs were sparse and many people were unable to get work.
Many farmers were affected by a period of drought called the Dust Bowl. Due to the lack of usable lands, many farmers were forced off their land.
The farmers who were still there had to use dryland farming to maintain the small amount of moisture that the land still had.
Citizens all across the country had debts that they couldn't pay, so many people would have to sell their houses . This process of liquidation led to many people having to travel to look for more work and housing.
