James I was a king who believed in the Divine Rights Of Kings which created tension with him and the parliament.He believed he was chosen by God to be king and didn't want to listen to the parliament.

Since James didn't want to listen to parliament it eventually led to a civil war between the Round heads(Parliament) against the Cavaliers(Kings) .
After James died his son Charles I became king and later was beheaded by Oliver Cromwell(in public)who was the parliament leader who sets up military dictatorship but after his death army goes back to monarchy.
