My Uncle Odell was a very smart man, he was my favorite Uncle. Before we got the phone call that he was hit by a car, it was any regular day. My mother was so sad, I knew that it would her forever.
We know our days are counted here. Each evening we wait for the first light of the last fireflies, catch them in jars then let them go again. As though we understand their need for freedom. As though our silent prayers to stay in Greenville will be answered if we do what we know is right.
My Uncle Odell and I loved to catch fireflies, while he was still alive. Oh how much I miss him.
