The hatred between Hamilton and Burr started in the election of 1800. Alexander Hamilton backed his rival Thomas Jefferson and turned people against Aaron Burr.
Burr's hatred for Hamilton grew even after the election of 1800. Hamilton did everything in his power to prevent Burr from becoming president. Hamilton would go to many places to talk about Burr's defaults.
Aaron Burr got tired of Hamilton always being his critic. Aaron Burr challenged Alexander Hamilton to a duel, and Hamilton couldn't back down.
Alexander and Aaron had their duel in New Jersey. Alexander's second was Nathaniel Pentolten, and Aaron's second was W.P. Van Ness. A doctor named David Hosack was also present.
Alexander Hamiton died because of the duel. Hamilton threw away his shot, and Aaron Burr shot him.
Killing Alexander Hamilton ruined Aaron Burr's political career. Burr spent the rest of his life regretting his decision to kill Hamilton.
